It was the summer of 2002, Cookie wanted to do something to help all the Veterans in this area. She wanted a "Poker Run". Veterans and Volunteer came together and offered their help to make this happen. Gladys and the "crew" at the River Lounge agreed to sponsor the Poker Run.

 With each passing year, her "dream" continues to grow.

Veterans Day Poker Run supporters wanted to Camp-out (tents and Rv's) at the River Lounge, wanted Product and Food Vendors, and Live Music.

 It had grown so large, a Committee was formed to help manage this event. The VDPR Committee determines the direction, and rules the Poker Run operates by.  VDPR Members Ponysoldier, Viper, Popeye and Springer are proud members of the Lower Alabama Veterans Alliance (LAVA)
